American Family Insurance has chosen Wildfire Defense Systems, Inc. (WDS) as our partner in order to provide policyholders in certain states with this service, free of charge. WDS monitors wildfires 24/7 and may deploy services to your area when it determines that a wildfire has the potential to threaten your home. Situations may arise that prevent services from being rendered, so they’re not always guaranteed.
What services are included?
Some of the services that may be provided include the following:
- The removal of flammable debris (like pine needles, dead leaves and wood mulch)
- Non-destructive fuel mitigation around the property
- Sprinkler system set‐up (which could include portable water tanks)
- Sealing home vents with fire-resistive tape
- The application of water-based fire‐blocking gel and/or retardant
- Protecting structures from post‐fire residual threats (like airborne embers)

*If you currently have a home policy (excluding condos and renters policies) and live in one of the following states, you are the first to be eligible for this service:
